George D. Solomon
George D. Solomon was honored for his service and charitable contributions as a rotarian at the 75th anniversary Gala for the Freeport-Merrick rotary
George was born in Bronx, NY in 1953 and grew up in Levittown, NY. He graduated Island Trees HS in 1971. He attended William Patterson College of New Jersey where he majored in Sociology. George married his wife Eileen in 1977. They have two lovely daughters, Jennifer and Kristin.
His professional life for the last thirty one years has been in personal and corporate finance and planning. He currently represents FSC Securities Corporation as a General and Municipal Securities Principal / Division Manager. George provides sound investment advice and retirement planning services. A financial advisor who assist individuals with estate and college planning, George holds a Series 24, Series 51, Series 7, Series 63, Series 65, North Carolina, Florida and New York State Health and Life Insurance licenses, and is a member of SIPC / FINRA. He is an Independent Broker for AFLAC. He was a teacher of investment classes at Suffolk County Community College in Selden, NY since September of 2000.
Prior to 1984, George held several senior level management, sales and marketing positions with several Fortune 500 Companies. He was responsible for the disposition of Federal, State and New York City contracts in his capacity as Senior Government Specialist.
In May of 2018 he moved his Residence and Business to Huntersville, NC. As a former resident of Mattituck, George took pride in his community and had devoted a great deal of his time and energy to many civic organizations. He is a Past President of the Mattituck Chamber of Commerce, Past President and Past Director of the Mattituck Community Fund. He had represented the North Fork Promotions Council as a Director since 1996. He has been a key player in a host of recreational and beautification projects. He has also chaired a number of fund- raising events for various charitable organizations. Through his dedicated work with State, County, and Southold Town officials, he has secured and administered several public grants for the Hamlet of Mattituck. George was an advocate for the preservation of open space on the North Fork of Long Island, and is a former Vice Chairman of the Southold Town Planning Board. He also advised Former Congressman Tim Bishop on his Small Business Advisory Committee. He spent two terms as a director to the Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau and Sports Commission representing the North Fork of Long Island.
George's passion has been his involvement in Rotary International since 1993 when he became an active member of the Riverhead Rotary Club. In 1999 he was asked to join the Club's Board of Directors. In 2000 he was awarded Rotarian of the Year. He served as Secretary, President Elect and was proud to be Riverhead's Centennial President. During that year, the club earned the Presidential Citation. George has been honored nine times as a Paul Harris Fellows, a $1,000 donation each time to the Rotary Foundation in his name, for his significant contributions to Rotary. In 2007 George joined the board of Rotary Gift of Life 7260. In July of 2008 he took the oath of office as District Governor for District 7260 in Suffolk County, NY. After his term as Governor he was appointed District Rotary Foundation Chair and serves until 2012. In 2009 George was honored to accept a seat on the board of Rotary's Gift of Life International made up of over 80 Gift of Life programs throughout the world. For his extensive work in Haiti he was made an Honorary Member of the Port au Prince Rotary Club. In February of 2011 George was honored by the Board of Directors of Rotary International with the Service above Self Award. The highest honor a Rotarian can receive, given only to 150 Rotarian Worldwide a year. As a member of the Rotary Club of Rocky Point, in 2014 he received the Citation for Meritorious Service from the Rotary Foundation. In 2015 along two other members of Gift of Life International, George was honored by the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad with their Outstanding Humanitarian Work Award. As a new resident of Huntersville, NC he joined the Huntersville Lake Norman Rotary Club. He presently is the Global Grants Chair for the local North Carolina Rotary District 7680.
George has been involved with several Global grants from The Rotary Foundation in 20 different countries and has made many trips to Haiti, Dominican Republic and El Salvador in the past 5 years. His work in Haiti has led to the formation of Kado Lavi, the new Gift of Life Haiti. In the last four years together with a partnership of Rotary Clubs throughout the world, The Rotary Foundation and other NGO’s, we have successfully done over 400 open heart surgeries on children of need in Haiti.
